The major of Digital Media Art
I. Professional Orientation
The major of digital media art was founded in 2011 and reintegrated the teachers of film and television photography and production, animation as well as digital media art in 2018, focusing on the two professional fields of film and television special effects and digital interaction. Relying on the orientation of Taiyuan University of Technology as a "double-first-class" university and the talent demand of Shanxi's economic transformation to promote a strong cultural province, this major takes advantage of the combination of science and technology as well as interdisciplinary integration, strengthens the concept of scientific and educational cooperation as well as practical education, and implements the teaching mode of school-enterprise cooperation and integration of production and education. The major takes "digital media+cultural relics" and "digital media+industry" as the main line. From the perspective of digital media art, it solves the problems of cultural relics and industrial digital exhibition and cultural communication in an intelligent way, and trains high-quality digital media art professionals who promote the economic development of Shanxi and the development of China's cultural industry.
II. Features & Advantages
This major is the key construction discipline of the university. According to the strategic decision of Shanxi Province as a national cultural relic province and energy base and Shanxi's economic transformation, it sets up two directions of the digitization of cultural relics and industrial dynamic presentation with prominent regional characteristics. Through the integration of production and education, it serves the local economy, improves students' practical ability and teaching quality. In professional teaching, the major implements the talent training mode of "studio system", "undergraduate tutor" teaching team and scientific research back-feeding teaching, which greatly improves students' theoretical learning and practical ability. In 2019, it ranked 33rd in the national soft science category, the top 19%, and the first in the province. In the same year, the teaching reform won the special prize of teaching in Shanxi Province. In the past three years, students’ works have won 73 national awards and 195 provincial and ministerial awards.
Relying on the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the college, this major has virtual simulation and digital virtual laboratories, covering an area of about 2,000 square meters and more than 6 million equipments, offering 22 innovative experimental projects for students. It has five provincial-level scientific and technological innovation platforms, including the Art Heritage Research Center, a key research base of humanities and social sciences in Shanxi Province, Construction and Cultivation Project released by Shanxi University Innovation Base-Cultural Heritage Protection and Restoration Collaborative Innovation Center, the Art Design Graduate Education Innovation Center in Shanxi Province, and the Cultural and Creative Industry Base in Shanxi Province. It has signed agreements on digital scientific research and practical teaching of cultural relics with four cultural institutions such as Shanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau and Taiyuan Tian longshan Museum, and with more than 10 companies such as Yachang Culture Group and Shanxi You yike Technology Co., Ltd.. It also signed a letter of intent with Shanxi Coking Coal Group for "Industrial Big Data Virtual Simulation Visualization Research Center", and jointly trained professional talents with industrial dynamic characteristics.
III. Reform and Development
This major attaches importance to international cooperation and exchanges with art colleges and related institutions at home and abroad, and has formed a good mechanism for academic exchange, personnel training and cooperative research. It signed cooperation agreements with internationally renowned universities such as the University of Chicago, the Rome Academy of Fine Arts, and the Paris Institute of Advanced Arts. Foreign students from the Paris Institute of Advanced Arts study in our college and take this professional course; International students from South Korea and Benin study in this major; With the Rome Academy of Fine Arts and other well-known art colleges in developed countries in Europe and America, we have established extensive cooperation in undergraduate exchange training, mutual recognition of credits, teachers' exchange visits and lectures, and joint training of graduate students. Every year, teachers from cooperative colleges such as France and Italy hold workshop to train talents and carry out various forms of cultural and artistic exchange activities, which significantly improves the international level.
